📌 Be cautious of slippery rocky plateaus and wandering wild elephants in upper Diyaluma area.
This highest portion of Diyaluma Falls, is situated in the Badulla District close to Koslanda town. At approximately 220 meters, it ranks as Sri Lanka's second-highest waterfall.
One route that leads to Upper Diyaluma begins five kilometers from Koslanda Junction in the direction of Poonagala. After that make a descent trek of about 1 km. Wild elephants wander this area, so take caution. Another access point is located on the main road heading toward Wellawaya, approximately 3.5km from Koslanda Junction. Using the sub-hilly road, vehicles can travel approximately 500 meters from that reaching point. It needs to walk another 1 km on a hilly trek to get to upper Diyaluma.
Small stores selling a variety of food items, drinks, and snacks can be found around this area. In addition, it is possible to rent camping gear and tour guides at affordable rates.
From the summit of Upper Diyaluma, there are stunning panoramic views of the valley below, the surrounding hills, and the lower falls. The natural setting and dramatic vistas make it a popular spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
The upper side of upper Diyaluma area is home to wild elephant paths. Due to multiple reports of wild elephant attacks resulting in deaths and injuries the recent past, caution is advised.
