Foxhill Supercross in Sri Lanka is one of the country's most popular and exciting motocross events. It is typically held at the Fox Hill track, which is located in Diyatalawa, within the Sri Lanka Military Academy premises. This event is one of the oldest and most prestigious motocross competitions in Sri Lanka and has been an annual tradition since the early 1990s.
The Sri Lanka Military Academy organizes the Foxhill Supercross in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders. It usually takes place around April and attracts a large number of local and international riders. The event features various categories, including motocross bikes, cars and ATVs, and showcases a range of talents from young up-and-coming riders to seasoned professionals.
The Fox Hill track is known for its challenging terrain, including sharp bends, steep inclines, and declines, making it a thrilling experience for both riders and spectators. The event is not only a significant competition in the Sri Lankan motorsport calendar but also a major social event, drawing thousands of fans each year.
The 2024 edition was the 28th edition of the event and received around 270 entries, including 150 cars and 120 bikes, marking the highest number of car entries in the event's history. The event was held after a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Army had renovated the Fox Hill Supercross track, which had not been used for many years, with the support of the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports Association.
During the 2024 Fox Hill Supercross, a tragic accident occurred, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including an eight-year-old girl, and injuries to approximately 24 others. The crash happened when two racing cars lost control and collided with spectators. This incident unfolded during the 17th race of the 1500cc Ford Laser Mazda 323 category, leading to immediate suspension of the remaining events.
