Pahanthudawa Falls is situated in Rathnapura district around 2 km away from Belihuloya and 19 km away from Balangoda. It is shaped like the wick of a lamp, contributing to its name which is also known as Galagama Ella and Pahanthuda Ella. The climb to Pahanthuda Cascade goes through a wilderness which makes it an intriguing experience for vigorous explorers.
The "Hawagala" mountain range is the wellspring of this cascade. Pahanthudawa waterfall flows into Belihul Oya before it streams into Samanala Wewa reservoir. The surrounding ecosystem of this falls is wealthy in biodiversity. Important plants and creatures can be tracked down in this biological system. The cascade drives a small-scale hydropower plant that generates electricity for the encompassing area.
Bathing in pools near the falls is adventurous and dangerous because of the depth. During heavy rains, the water level in this area escalates rapidly within 10 to 15 minutes. Also, be cautious during rainy days because the footpath to the base of the waterfall is slippery.
