Surathali Ella Falls is 60m tall, usually 2m wide Originating from the Sri Paada Reserve. This waterfall is located near Belihuloya closer to the Colombo – Badulla main road (A4) and the upper part of this fall can be seen from the road. This waterfall is one of the few easily accessible from the road. To get there, you must walk for around 50 meters. By taking a footpath leading into the surrounding jungle, you can also get to the summit of it. An unspoiled wildlife sanctuary surrounds it.
. The Surathali Falls are mentioned in a number of folktales. A legend regarding this waterfall says that two peasants were on a bush excursion when they spotted gold plates flashing in a cave. They made the decision to find the wealth and entered the cave, but as soon as they were there, the cave's stone door shut, preventing them from leaving. Only after they admitted that King Walagamba was the rightful owner of the riches where they permitted to go. According to another legend, the 'Sita Devi Guli' are a number of soil crystals that this waterfall hits. It is reported that Sita Devi produced these sweets here, spilt part of them, and they still exist at these locations. These soil crystals resemble the rice used to make aggala.
