Thanga-malai, which translates to "Golden Mountain" in Tamil, is another common name for Narangala. The golden grasses that cover this mountain's slopes are the reason behind its name. There are moments when the sun is bright and other moments when the surroundings are hazy. The surroundings are so beautiful no matter the weather.

It points out a chasm that has formed between the Uma, Badulu, and Loggal valleys. Narangala is composed of a triangular peak and a rectangular plateau. From the summit of Narangala Mountain, you have a clear view of the Horton Plains area, Randenigala reserve, Namunukula range, Idalgashinna and Haputale plateau, Nayabadda Madolsima area and Poonagala area on one side.

From Badulla city, you have to travel 12.7 km through Alugolla and Kandegedara to reach Narangala. Narangala is a well-liked destination for campers. So, it is possible to rent camping gear from nearby villagers at reasonable rates. Also, you have to carry enough food and water to the summit of the mountain.
